Man, 31, Killed In Waterbury After Hitting Parked Tractor-Trailer

A 31-year-old New York man was killed after his vehicle struck a parked tractor-trailer in Connecticut.

Christopher Ortiz, of Watertown, in Jefferson County, was found dead around 12:06 a.m., Wednesday, April 21, when Waterbury police responded to a motor vehicle accident in the area of South Main Street at Verzier Street, in Waterbury, said Sgt. Davis.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a white 2005 Nissan Altima had traveled from the northbound lane of traffic into the southbound lane and struck a parked unoccupied tractor-trailer, Davis said.

 The Nissan sustained heavy damage, which led to Waterbury Fire Department extricating Ortiz from the vehicle. 

Ortiz was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, Davis added.The

Waterbury Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the cause of the accident. 

The owner of the tractor-trailer has been notified and continues to cooperate with officers with the ongoing investigation.
