Residents: Greenwich Cleans Up Well in Snow

Greenwich residents, in the midst of another snowstorm, said the town has done a good job of clearing the roads for motorists. "There are only so many plows out there, but in central Greenwich I think they are really on top of it," said Joe Arcade, who was out on Greenwich Avenue with his wife Ricky on Friday afternoon as flurries fell.

Ricky agreed. "Just look at the avenue," she said, gesturing to the slushy but mainly clear street. "It feels a little slippery, and I think it's keeping people off the roads, but we're still in good shape.

For Rebecca Diaz, an employee at Giggle, a specialty baby store on Greenwich Avenue, her top priority was deicing. "I made sure to prepare to get the ice down before snow accumulates on top of it and it gets too slippery to walk," she said.

According to the town Highway Division, plow drivers were out clearing roadways that accrue some snow and were prepared to continue the rest of the day.

"We treat every storm differently," said Carmine Vitiello, operations manager of the Highway Division. "In the areas where there is still ice underneath snow, we're going to continue to work to try to clear them."

To help the town in clearing roads, Vitiello said residents should wait to shovel out their driveways. Additionally, residents are reminded that the town prohibits private plow contractors from pushing snow from driveways or parking lots onto town streets because it impedes the town's snow-removal efforts.
