Greenwich Snow Emergency Remains in Effect

The snow emergency for Greenwich will remain in effect until further notice, town officials said Wednesday. It could last another 24 to 48 hours while the cleanup continues. and the Town of Greenwich Emergency Operations Center remains in a partial activation mode.

The highway division was busy keeping the main roadways passable while trying to get to secondary and tertiary streets. The Weather Service’s accurate forecast of the severity of the storm allowed residents to make an easy decision to stay home and off the roads.

According to Lt. Kraig Gray, spokesman of the Greenwich Police Department, there were no reports of fire, police or EMS incidents directly related to the storm, and just a few minor motor vehicle accidents and medical calls. “In fact we could say that call volume overall was down for the day,” said Gray. “This storm brought plenty of potential for problems, but fortunately didn’t deliver.”  

During the afternoon rush hour, police were advising residents to exercise caution and drive only if necessary due to the blowing and drifting of snow.

School parking lots and routes have been cleared. Announcements on school openings will be made by the Board of Education.

The town continued to have a problem with private contractors pushing snow into roadways. Residents were advised to ask private plow trucks to move extra snow to an appropriate area. Those shoveling out their driveways were asked to shovel out hydrants in front of their homes.
