Tennis Talent, Heat Sizzle in Greenwich Tourney

GREENWICH, Conn. -- The late-morning sun baked the tennis courts at Binney Park, but it did not deter the finalists of the annual Greenwich town tennis tournament. The culmination of two weeks of matches, the finals featured some impressive young talent and two thrilling doubles matches.

Jessyca and Pedro Cameselle overcame a 2-6 loss in their first set to beat Craig and Judy Shultz in the mixed doubles final in three sets (2-6, 7-6 [9], 6-2). The Cameselles needed to go to the ninth tiebreaker set to beat the Shutlzes in the second frame. With that dramatic win they took the third set easily.

Meg DeCaro and Virginia Correll recovered from a 5-7 first set loss to win the women's open doubles over Rebecca Moore and Lynn Flynn (5-7, 6-1, 6-4). Flynn went on to defeat her doubles teammate in the 35-and-over womens singles final, 6-2, 6-2.

In a nearly three-hour match, Craig Shultz overcame his loss in the mixed doubles, winning the men's 35-and-over singles title. Shultz outlasted Pieter Van Tulder in three sets, 4-6, 7-6, 7-5.

Sebastian Herrera knocked off defending 17-and-under champion, Chris Salisbury, in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Henry DeCoster defeated Sarah Callahan in the 12-and-under finals, 4-0, 4-0.
