GREENWICH, Conn. One of the best and fastest-growing water polo programs in the country finally has a permanent home. Greenwich Water Polo will move its entire program to the new Chelsea Piers facility in Stamford when it opens in July, according to a joint statement.
"We are excited to be moving to Chelsea Piers Connecticut and to have a real home," Greenwich Water Polo President Terry Lowe said in the release. "For the first time, our entire program will be housed at a single location. We will now be able to enlarge the program and to provide more practice time for all of our teams and players throughout the year."
Greenwich Water Polo will run a year-round program consisting of four seasons of competitive play for children ages 7 to 18. Greenwich Water Polo has more than 200 house and travel players, and many continue their water polo careers at top universities and colleges. Greenwich Water Polo is a member club of USA Water Polo, the U.S. Olympic governing body for water polo, and is also a member of American Water Polo.
"We are thrilled to welcome Greenwich Water Polo to our aquatics program," Jamie Barone, Chelsea Piers Connecticut aquatics director, said in the release. "We are very happy to have partnered with such an experienced and successful group."
The 400,000-square-foot Chelsea Piers athletic complex will open in Stamford in July. The facility will include an Olympic-size pool, two professional-size ice hockey rinks, a field house with a regulation turf football field, a gymnastics center, baseball and softball batting cages, 11 squash courts, seven tennis courts and more.
