Greenwich Teams Take Second in State Track

GREENWICH, Conn. – Greenwich High School’s girls and boys teams finished second Thursday in the Class LL indoor track and field championships at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.

Both teams had multiple champions. The girls finished with 74 points, trailing only Glastonbury, which had 91. Staples’ boys won the team title with 80.5, while the Cardinals took second with 55.

Elizabeth Markowitz won the 600, and Abby Markowitz won the 1,000 and 1,600 for Greenwich. Greenwich also shined in the relays, taking home three titles. The 4 x 200 relay champions included Amanda Michaud, Claire D’Etivaud, Emily Johnson and Naomi Leeds. The winning 4 x 400 relay included Elizabeth Markowitz, Cate Wright, Leeds and Michaud. In the 4 x 800, Elizabeth Markowitz anchored a team that included Lindsey Noskin, Emily Johnson and Wright.

Other scorers for the girls included Michaud (third in the 300), and D’Etiveaud (fifth, high jump).

While the Markowitz sisters led the girls, Marcus Motill grabbed three golds to pace the boys. He captured the 300, 600 and ran the opening leg of the 4 x 200 relay. He was joined on the relay by Elijah Dume, Nick Pulitano and Ryan Kelly. Robert Gelcius also won the shot put for Greenwich.

Other scorers for the boys were Dume (sixth, 300), Ryan Kelly (third, 600) and Daniel Wilbanks (fifth, 1,000).
