Greenwich Girls Win First Indoor Title in 32 Years

GREENWICH, Conn. – Greenwich’s girls track and field team won its first league title since 1980 in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championship meet Thursday at the Floyd Little Athletic Complex in New Haven.

Greenwich won with 92 points, edging Darien, which finished with 74. Defending league champion Danbury was third with 49. Greenwich’s boys took third with 52 points. Staples’ boys won the team title.

Senior Abigail Markowitz led the Cardinals, winning the 1,000, 1,600 and 3,200 and anchoring the victorious sprint medley relay. Greenwich set the tone for the meet by winning the 4 x 200 relay with Amanda Michaud, Claire D’Etivaud, Emily Johnson and Naomi Leeds.

Lindsey Noskin, Johnson and Cate Wright joined Markowitz in the sprint medley. Michaud won the 300, with Leeds third, and Greenwich won the 4 x 400 with Elizabeth Markowitz, Wright, Leeds and Michaud. Elizabeth Markowitz also took second in the 600.

Greenwich’s boys also won the opening relay with Marcus Motill, Elijah Dume, Nick Pulitano and Ryan Kelly. Motill won the 600, followed by Kelly, who also took second in the 300.
