Floyd Falls in First Round of Mid-Am

Greenwich's Raymond Floyd lost in the first round of the U.S. Mid-Amateur to Joseph Saladino Monday at Atlantic Golf Club in Bridgehampton, N.Y. Saladino won 1-up with a par on the 20th hole.

Floyd, the son of the former PGA Tour star of the same name, and Saladino were locked in a tight match all day. Both players had leads at different points in the match. The biggest lead, however, was 1-up. Floyd squared the match with a birdie on the 16th hole, and the players stayed tied until the second extra hole.

Floyd finished tied for 43rd in qualifying after shooting 73-79-152. Greenwich's John Crowley failed to advance to match play after shooting 82-79-161. The tournament features the country's top amateur players who are at least 25 years old. There were 264 players in the field, and the top 64 advanced to match play.
