Wilton PTO Awarded Big $500 Check

On the same day the second-graders at Miller-Driscoll School celebrated Halloween in their annual costume parade, their parents had another reason to celebrate: The PTA was awarded $500 on Thursday for its participation in the Better Schools Bonanza. Jeffrey Busch, co-president of the Miller-Driscoll PTA, said the $500 thank-you prize was just the beginning.

"You haven't seen anything yet," Busch said, expecting to get many more people to vote for Miller-Driscoll.

Busch, along with PTA Co-President Tiffany Tecce, PTA Vice President Kim Burke, Principal Cheryl Jensen-Gerner and Assistant Principals Sheelah Brown and Leslie Pearson, received the check.

Representing Main Street Connect, the publisher of TheDailyWilton.com and its nine sister sites, was President John Falcone and Director of Communications Thomas Cain.

According to Busch, the Miller-Driscoll PTA got involved after looking for an "angle that we don't like" and realizing there wasn't one. That pleased Falcone, who assured them that he wants their feedback to make each website represent the town it covers.

"At the end of the day, if you don't feel ownership, if you don't feel this is an open honest place for you and your neighbors, we need to know about it," Falcone said, handing out his business cards to the PTA members.

Miller-Driscoll became the second school to receive the thank-you prize after Jefferson Science Magnet School in Norwalk, which got its check Wednesday.

Everyone can register and vote for his or her favorite school in hopes of making their school the Big Thank-You Winner with a prize of $10,000; the Big Thank-You Runner-Up at $5,000, or the $500 Thank-You prize Miller-Driscoll received Tuesday. The deadline for the contest is 11:59 p.m. Nov. 15.
