The celebration will continue into Thursday, Oct. 23 with the Parade of Nations from 1-2 p.m. Nearly 60 countries will be represented in the parade, and students will walk behind the flags of their respective countries dressed in his/her country’s native attire.
Several guest speakers will participate in the event, including U.N. official Joseph V. Reed and William McKersie, superintendent of Greenwich Public Schools.
The Julian Curtiss Choraleers, made up of 4th and 5th grade students, will perform a song in honor of the celebration.
“Julian Curtiss is a unique school and special community – our students represent 60 countries, speak 30 languages and the result is one great school. We celebrate our diversity and learn from it every day. Our United Nations Day celebrations reflect our international theme and multicultural community,” said Principal Trish McGuire. The U.N. Day festivities will conclude with an International Food Tasting Friday, Oct. 24 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. where the Julian Curtiss community will display their culture and heritage by bringing and sharing dishes from around the world. A fashion show featuring Julian Curtiss parents and students dressed in their country’s traditional attire will round out the evening.
