Stamford firefighters responded to Bedford Street around 4:45 a.m. and found smoke pouring from Chez Vous Bistro, a popular French restaurant on the corner of Spring Street. Flames licked the walls and burned through the ceiling of the building, which is home to multiple businesses.

Stamford crews called for reinforcements in the four-alarm fire, and more than 50 firefighters battled the blaze for more than two hours before it was finally extinguished just before 7 a.m.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries while beating back flames, but they were treated and released after a medical evaluation, the Stamford Fire Department said.

The Stamford Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

Other businesses damaged in the blaze include Whim Women’s Clothing, Atelier Valoar Couture, the Women’s Business Development Council, and Deco Fine Arts and Framing.

The extent of that damage was unclear.
