The Greenwich Board of Education has approved a capital improvement plan that gives preference to projects like the high school music space and auditorium project. The board's action came at Thursday's work session.
Schools Superintendent Sidney Freund said he wanted to place student health and safety ahead of instructional improvements. Health and safety include heating, ventilation and air conditioning work and a boiler replacement, according to published reports. Freund said he planned to submit a $28 million request for the Music Instruction Space and Auditorium project and a capital improvements request reduced from $12.2 million to $9.5 million. The request will go to the town's Capital Improvement Projects Committee.
Freund said other projects could wait, according to published reports.
After debate, the board decided to defer funding requests for a $275,000 locker room renovation at Central Middle School, a $195,000 fitness center at Western Middle School and the installation of Wi-Fi at the middle schools at a cost of $200,000 per school. All eight board members voted to approve the plan laid out by Freund.
