The Luchsinger Gallery at Greenwich Academy will host an exhibit of work by Martha W. Lewis starting Jan. 12 that explores science, mathematics and the convergence of art. Through her artwork, Lewis uses visual language with maps, diagrams, charts and drawings.
As a seasoned traveler who lives abroad and in the United States, Lewis does most of her work out of temporary studios on the road. She is primarily a painter but has edited and printed her own fictional newspaper in the United Kingdom. In April 2009, Lewis curated the Yarn Theory exhibit at the PS122 Gallery in New York that featured crocheted and knitted models and pieces done by mathematicians, scientists and artists.
She received a 2010-11 Artist Fellowship Award for work on paper by the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism, one of five artists selected for the honor.
Lewis will visit the Greenwich Academy campus to discuss her artwork with the Middle and Upper School students as well as during an open reception at 6 p.m. Jan. 27. For more information, call 203-625-4045.
