Greenwich Rep. Camillo Champions Bill To Keep Voters' Birth Dates Private

The bill, “An Act Prohibiting Disclosure of Date of Birth Information on Voter Records,” would prohibit an elector's date of birth contained on any record of the registrars of voters in a municipality from being disclosed to the public or any public agency.

The purpose of the measure is to protect voters from identity theft.

“In an era where identity theft is prevalent, one of the pieces of information that is needed to steal one's identity is a date of birth,” Camillo said. “In this day and age, we must not only combat this pervasive criminal activity, we must ensure that our voters are not put in this vulnerable spot."

Camillo presented testimony about his proposal before the Government Administration and Elections Committee on Monday, March 14.

In the coming weeks, the committee will choose whether or not to advance the bill.
