Growing Opioid Crisis In Greenwich Triggers Community Forum

GREENWICH, Conn. -- The rising concerns of the opioid crisis will take center stage among officials and community members in Greenwich at a public forum later this month at Greenwich Town Hall.

The Greenwich Police Department is among the sponsors of a community forum on the opioid epidemic planned for Jan. 26.

“The recently completed report by the Greenwich Department of Social Services and Liberation Programs on opioid use in Greenwich clearly indicates that opioid dependence and addiction is a serious public health problem that requires immediate attention from both medical professionals and Greenwich residents," said Dr. Alan Barry, town Commissioner of Social Services.

FBI Community Outreach Specialist Charles Grady will be the keynote speaker at the event.

His presentation on “Chasing the Dragon” will provide insight to the drug epidemic in Connecticut.

Grady was chosen to be the first FBI Community Outreach Specialist in Connecticut. In the role, he educates community members, law enforcement and judicial members on ways to effectively build a safer and more tolerant Connecticut.

A Q&A panel discussion will follow Grady's presentation. Panel members will include members of the Greenwich Police Department, Liberation Programs, and Communities 4 Action.

This event is sponsored by the Greenwich Police Department, Greenwich Department of Social Services, First Selectman’s Youth Commission, Liberation Programs, and Communities 4 Action.
