Joseph DiSapio, 90, Former Greenwich WWII Veteran

GREENWICH, Conn. – Joseph A. DiSapio, a 40-year resident of Greenwich, died Tuesday, Sept. 18. He was 90.

Born April 14, 1922, in Morra DeSanctis, Italy, he was the son of Angelo Michael and Concetta Finello DiSapio. He immigrated to the Chicahominy neighborhood of Greenwich with his mother in 1923. He also lived in Beekman, N.Y., for 32 years.

On Nov. 13, 1947, DiSapio married Margaret DeFelice. She predeceased him on May 12, 1992. He served in the Coast Guard Reserve and the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a past commander of American Legion Post 1302 in New York.

He was a life member of the Navy Seabee Veterans of Islands X-6 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a commissioner of the Beekman Fire Department and a member of the Beekman Lions Club. He was most recently of Bradenton, Fla.

DiSapio is survived by a son, Michael (Joy) DiSapio of Bradenton; a daughter, Noreen Hennessy, and her fiance, Butch Cargain, of Beekman; three sisters, Mary Braccio and Emma Gilbert of Greenwich, and Irene (Leo) Bilotti of Toms River, N.J.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Concetta Denkinger Morea.
