Fogarty was born Jan. 20, 1930, in New Orleans to Bertha K. and John F. Fenn. Raised in Winnetka, Ill., she graduated from North Shore Country Day School in Winnetka and studied at the Ecole Lemania in Lausanne, Switzerland.
She later graduated from Katherine Gibbs School and became a personnel secretary at Northwestern University Graduate School of Business and Commerce. In 1951, she married James F. Fogarty Jr. They lived in Cincinnati, New York City and Greenwich, where they raised two daughters.
When she divorced in 1967, Fogarty became an executive assistant with S&K Sales Company, GTE and Finn Dixon & Herling LLP. She then worked as an administrative assistant at Fogarty Knapp & Associates Inc. for the last 13 years of her career.
A gifted pianist, she loved a wide variety of music and was an avid reader. She completed the New York Times crossword puzzle daily and exchanges notes with puzzle editor Will Shortz.
She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Fenn Heely. Fogarty is survived by two daughters, Katharine Fogarty and Elizabeth Fogarty Walsh; and two nieces.
There will be a memorial gathering at 11 a.m. Saturday at Indian Harbor Yacht Club in Greenwich.
