Alfred Galasso, 78, Greenwich Mechanical Engineer

GREENWICH, Conn. – Alfred "Al" Galasso, a longtime Greenwich resident, died Oct. 14 in Inverness, Fla., after battling an illness. He was 78. 

Galasso served in the Navy during the Korean War and later worked as a mechanical engineer. After his retirement, he worked as an auxiliary police officer for the Greenwich Police Department. 

He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Byram Veterans and Power Squadron. He enjoyed helping in his community, as well as fishing and spending time with his dog, Frisky.  

Galasso was predeceased by his wife, Rose, in 1997; his mother, Isabella, in 1995; his father, Angelo, in 1963; and a nephew, Jay Paul, in 1993. He is survived by a sister, Ilona Mendicino; a brother, Charles (Vikki) Galasso; and four nieces, two nephews and their families. 

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gunipero-Farenga Funeral Home in Port Chester, N.Y. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at a time to be announced Saturday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Greenwich. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
