Worker Charged With Smashing Greenwich Deck

GREENWICH, Conn. — A worker from White Plains, N.Y., was arrested Monday and charged with taking a sledgehammer to the deck of a home in the Cos Cob section of Greenwich. He said his boss hadn’t paid him for his work on the deck, police said.

The owner of the Valleywood Drive home called police when he came home and found Jose Manuel Diaz, 34, of 200 W. Moreland Ave., smashing the deck with a sledgehammer. It also had the words “I’m sorry he pay” painted on it.

Diaz was charged with criminal trespass, criminal mischief and breach of peace. He was held on $5,000 bond and is due in court Feb. 6.
