You can expect possible traffic delays at three locations Monday morning as the Greenwich Police Department, Internal Revenue Service and Connecticut State Police conduct commercial truck safety inspections.
Inspections will take place at Ritch Avenue, West Putnam Avenue and King Street from 7 a.m. to noon.
Lt. Kraig Gray, spokesman for the police department, said inspections are done at various times throughout the year, but this one is the largest the department has ever done. He said police are looking for violations of commercial trucking laws and inspecting such things as logbooks, tires and mud flaps. IRS representatives will be checking fuel tanks to make sure it is diesel fuel, not home heating oil, because road diesel is subject to different tax laws. Agents can tell the difference because home heating oil is dyed, whereas road diesel is clear.
Of course, if we see any violations, we can enforce motor vehicle laws, said Gray. Cops will be out there writing tickets.
