Tree Warden Pardons 8 Old Greenwich Trees

Eight trees in Old Greenwich that were slated to be cut down got a reprieve Monday from the town’s tree warden, Bruce Spaman.

The request to remove the English oaks and replace them came from Sound Beach Avenue merchants who said they were blocking preventing potential customers from seeing their shops. At a hearing last week, residents argued that uprooting the trees was unnecessary.

Spaman ruled the trees should remain because they are healthy, but they will receive a pruning to make the storefronts more visible.

Anyone seeking to contest Spaman’s decision will have 10 days to appeal to the state Superior Court in Stamford.
