Post Office For Sale; No Stamps Included

A for sale sign was posted outside the Greenwich Avenue post office Wednesday afternoon. The U.S. Postal Service announced earlier this year its intention to sell the building and downsize to a smaller space.

"There is no asking price for the building," said Skip Lane, one of the Cushman & Wakefield agents handling the sale. "The bidding process began Monday, and we already have a number of interested investors and buyers."

The 17,000-square-foot space is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Postal service officials have said they are looking for buyers that plan to preserve the building and the 1939 mural in the lobby.

Lane said a final bidding date has not been set, but he is anticipating a sale before the end of the year.
