New Milford Man Charged in Sexual Assault

GREENWICH, Conn. – A New Milford man turned himself in on a warrant on a sexual assault charge after an 18-year-old Greenwich woman reported being touched inappropriately by a man who persuaded her to get into his white van for a ride home Monday, police said.

The teen told police that at 2 p.m. Monday, she was walking along Mallard Drive when she was approached by a passing white van with a ladder on top. The driver, James B. Magri, 27, of 3 Eden Lane, persuaded her to get into the van and drove her to her home a short distance away, police said.

While driving to the girl's residence, he tried to persuade her to engage in a consensual sex act, police said. When she rebuffed his advances, he allegedly touched her inappropriately, police said.

Magri left the area as the girl called for help on her cellphone. He turned himself in Thursday on a warrant for charges of sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor. He was released on $1,000 bond and is due in court Nov. 10.

"We urge all parents to speak to their children regarding the dangers of accepting unsolicited rides from strangers," said Lt. Kraig Gray, spokesman for the police department.
