Mary Louise Klipstein, Greenwich Academy Graduate

Mary Louise Klipstein See died April 7 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 89.

Klipstein, known as “Klippy,” was born in North Carolina before moving with her family to Greenwich. She attended Greenwich Academy, graduated from the Ethel Walker School as a prefect and graduated from Smith College with a degree in English. She was a member of the New York Junior League and worked as a script editor for the Blue Network before marrying Alonzo B. See II.

Klipstein and their baby daughter lived in Greenwich with her parents while her husband, an Army intelligence officer, was overseas. They moved in 1949 to Abilene, Texas, where she served as president of the Junior League, was a founding board member of St. John’s Day School and the Abilene Symphony Orchestra, and helped start the West Texas Rehabilitation Center.

The family returned to Greenwich in 1958, and she served on the Seabury House Guild and the Greenwich Academy Mothers Board. She was an active member of the Hortulus Garden Club and was a longtime member of the executive committee of the Republican Town Committee as well as a former member of the Greenwich Republican Round Table.

Klipstein is survived by her husband Alonzo; daughter Beverly See White and husband Lewis S. White; son Alonzo III and wife Elizabeth Holmes See; and four granddaughters.

Burial will be private with a memorial service May 27 at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Greenwich.
