Margaret Nigro Ward, Former Greenwich Resident

Margaret Mary Nigro Ward, a former Greenwich resident who was known to her friends as Maureen, died June 29 at her home in Milford. She was 79.

Ward was born in Greenwich on April 14, 1932. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Grammar School in Greenwich and Sacred Heart Academy. She earned a bachelor's degree from Saint Joseph’s College in West Hartford. After her marriage in 1965, she moved to Bethel and raised her family there. She had a long and distinguished career at Reader’s Digest and retired from her position as senior editor of international editions in 1994.

Ward is survived by her brother, Judge Martin Nigro; three daughters, Maura Ward, Christie Ward and Kerry Ward; and two grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends from around the world. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Ward.

The funeral will be held in the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bethel. The family will receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
