James Rocco Santaguida, Lifelong Cos Cob Resident

James Rocco Santaguida died at his home in Cos Cob on May 12. He was 93 years old.

Santaguida was born on March 13, 1918. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force and the owners of James R. Santaguida Sanitation. He was a past honoree and member of the St. Lawrence Society of Cos Cob and an usher at St. Catherine of Siena Church. He enjoyed singing, sports, daily neighborhood walks, dancing and bowling.

Santaguida is survived by his sons, Giuseppe Vincent of Gallatin, Tenn., James Richard and Irene Walker of Cos Cob, three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Carmela Caruso Santaguida, and four siblings.

Family and friends may visit at the Castiglione Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Ave., on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. A Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 4 Riverside Ave. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, 399 North St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Greenwich Hospital, Home Hospice, 2015 W. Main St., Stamford, CT 06902, or St. Lawrence Society, 86 Valley Road, Cos Cob, CT 06807.
