Byram Library Closes for New Carpets

The Byram Shubert Library will be closing its doors from Aug. 7- 22 for new carpet installation and relocating and wiring computer equipment. The Building Committee found the year-old carpet at the library worn and frayed in some areas. Committee members also found that the carpet currently installed during renovation of the branch was not the carpet specified by the architect. Since the mix-up, the carpet manufacturer has agreed to pay for the cost of the new carpeting and the installer will cover the costs of removal and installation.

According to a press release, Greenwich Library Director Carol Mahoney said, "August is typically a quieter time for libraries. This timeframe will allow for the work to be completed after Summer Reading ends and before school begins."

During the two-week closure, the book drop at the Byram branch will be emptied regularly and all reserved items will be transferred to the Greenwich Library for pickup. All fines will be waived for Byram branch patrons during the closure period.
