Greenwich's Backcountry Jazz to Perform Free Show

GREENWICH, Conn. – Backcountry Jazz, founded by Greenwich resident and tenor saxophonist Bennie Wallace, will perform a free concert Tuesday at the Roosevelt School in Bridgeport, thanks to a grant from the Bernstein Family Foundation.

“We’re honored to be the recipient of the Bernstein Family Foundation award and thrilled to be able to perform for the Roosevelt School on such short notice,” said Wallace, who has worked with the Roosevelt School’s principal in the past. The foundation, created by the family of Leonard Bernstein, supports arts education.

Wallace, Backcountry Jazz’s musical director, has asked other well-known jazz musicians to perform at the concert, including Grammy award-winning trombonist Jason Jackson, drummer Ignacio Berroa, guitarist Tony Lombardozzi and bassist Mike Karn. Rosena Hill will sing.

The 3 p.m. concert is free and open to the public and takes place in the auditorium at Roosevelt School, 680 Park Ave., in Bridgeport. For more information, contact Backcountry Jazz at 203-869-9454 or by email if interested in attending the concert.
