Greenwich: What's Up On The Ave?

With winter in its full glory, Anna and Alex ventured off the Ave and searched for residents having fun in the snow. First, we went to the Western Greenwich Civic Center and its popular sledding hill. We got to watch some daredevils who were snowboarding down steps and a steep hill.

Our next spot was Greenwich Point: Alex brought her pup, Casper, to enjoy the weather. We spoke to residents about winterizing their dogs and how they enjoy going down to the beach even in winter. Some said their dogs go into depression when the beach is closed to pets.

Here are some helpful tips for acclimated your dog to the cold:

• If you have a small breed dog or one with short hair, buy a coat or sweater to wear outside.

• Anti-freeze is poisonous: Do not let them drink from puddles or eat snow that may be contaminated.

• The sensitive skin under your dogs belly should be rubbed dry to prevent them from catching a cold.

• Use only pet-safe salt to deice your driveway.
