Greenwich Resident Supports O'Neil for Board of Ed

GREENWICH, Conn. - The following letter from Greenwich resident John Bologna endorses Board of Education candidate Barbara O'Neil.

As a property owner, taxpayer and parent with one child in the school system and another about to enter, I feel compelled to write in support of the candidacy of Barbara O'Neill for Board of Education. All Greenwich residents benefit from a successful school system. Residents with students in the system benefit from the education their children receive. Residents without children in the system benefit from increased property values and from a vitally charged community, as families seek to live in town because of the quality of the schools. Sanctions for failure to comply with federal and state standards pose a real and immediate threat to local control over our schools. At the same time, students also require a well-rounded education beyond the necessary test preparation. At this crucial juncture, we face an unfortunate break in continuity of leadership and must waste time searching for a new superintendent. This is a time for careful and considered curriculum planning and allocation of resources, not for obstructionism or cutting funding. Barbara O'Neill’s background as both educator and administrator will prove to be invaluable to the board. She will use her analytical skills to make informed decisions, respectfully advocate for her views and work constructively with the other board members to find solutions to the problems our system faces, including finding a new superintendent. She will help to ensure that children throughout all of our schools and at all levels of ability and achievement receive the educational resources they need to succeed. Barbara O'Neill is the best candidate to help us move our schools forward now and in the future. I urge my fellow residents to join me in voting for Barbara on Election Day.
