Parents who are looking for a fun fall activity to do with the kids this weekend can head to the Garden Education Center of Greenwich, which is hosting its second annual Harvest Moon Festival on Sunday.
"It really is a great family-friendly event," said Meg McAuley Kaicher, an executive board member at the center. "There will be a number of things kids can do, such as natural pumpkin decorating, a cooking class with the Cooking Fairy and pony rides."
The event also celebrates the center's teaching vegetable garden. The pumpkin patch will be open for children to pick a favorite and decorate it with natural elements. The Cooking Fairy, aka Joanna Wallis, will do a hands-on cupcake-making activity. According to Kaicher, they will learn that cooking is not only tasting but, easy and rewarding. Kids will also be able to get their faces painted and participate in a scavenger hunt.
For adults, Ann Roberston, a florist from Dirt, will demonstrate chic styling for garden cuttings. And a homegrown vegetable contest will be held. Gardeners are welcome to submit their fresh and organic veggies for judging in categories including biggest, roundest, tallest, most crooked and most unusual.
To get into the Halloween spirit, guests can "share a costume, take a costume" in a costume exchange.
