A mandatory evacuation has been lifted for the area surrounding Fairfield Avenue in Stamford due to an overturned truck hauling extremely hazardous materials. The evacuation was lifted around 12:45 p.m., but "Fairfield Avenue will remain closed for several more hours for final cleanup," according to the mayor’s office.
