World Series Run Ends for Fairfield

Fairfield American Little League fought to the finish in an elimination game  on Tuesday night at the Little League World Series, but could not overcome the hard-hitting of Auburn, Wash., falling 9-5. Fairfield twice battled back to within one run, but a three-run sixth inning for Auburn put the game out of reach.

Fairfield finished the tournament with a 1-2 record, losing to Pearland, Texas on Sunday night after a victory over the same Washington team last Friday.

Isaiah Hatch was the star for Washington, with four hits, including a sixth inning home run. Hatch also shut Fairfield down on the mound with runners on second and third and one out in the fifth inning.

Fairfield fell behind 2-0 in the first inning when Washington scored two runs off of starter Jack Quinn. Trailing 4-0, Fairfield star Nick Nardone hit a three-run home run to cut it to 4-3. Washington brought the lead back to three runs, 6-3, but Fairfield again battled back and made it 6-5. But Eddie Magi allowed three runs from the middle of Washington's lineup in the sixth, putting the game back out of reach.

In its final inning of play in Williamsport, Fairfield had two runners on, but could not get any runs across the board.

Fairfield finished the season with a 21-3 record, with its only other loss coming against Rhode Island in the New England Regional. Fairfield won the District 2 championship, the Section 1 championship and the state championship before a trip to Bristol, Conn. for the New England Regionals, which they also won.
