FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. The Mid-Fairfield Stars girls hockey team dropped a 3-2 contest to Honeybaked of Detroit in the semifinals of the Tier 1 USA Hockey national championships Sunday in Marlborough, Mass.
Westports Katherine Paliotta and Dariens Gillis Frechette scored for the Stars, who finished the season 37-12. Goalie Courtney DeNaut made 16 saves.
Paliotta, who finished as the top scorer in the tournament with 10 goals, scored with 13:48 to play to give the Star a 1-0 lead. After the Detroit team tied it in the second period, Frechettes goal with 7:07 left in the second period, assisted by Emma Seitz, gave the Stars a 2-1 lead.
Emma Tamer scored with 7:34 remaining to tie it for Honeybaked and she scored the game-winner on a power play with 3:28 remaining.
DeNaut had allowed just one goal in three previous games. Stamfords Caroline Silk also recorded a shutout in her only game in goal for the Stars.
Paliotta finished with 12 points for the tournament. Seitz had three goals and four assists, while Frechette had two goals and four assists.

They are coached by former Wilton High star Ryan Equale and Norwalks Moe Tarrant.
