Brian Kristy, 24, was charged with driving under the influence in the car accident, police said.

The crash occurred before 2 a.m. Sept. 21, when a car traveling north on Hillside Road crossed the center, hit a mailbox and two trees and then flipped twice before landing, police said. The crash caused $300 in damage to the property, police said.

When officers arrived at the crash scene, the driver was standing outside the car with visible injuries, police said.

Kristy told police that a deer darted out in front of him and caused him to lose control of the car, police said.

Police looked in the car and saw several full bottles of Amstel beer, police said. When asked, Kristy said he had been drinking earlier in the night, police said.

He was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital for treatment. After receiving a search warrant for the medical records, police found that Kristy had been over the legal alcohol limit at the time of the accident, police said.

Kristy turned himself in to police Tuesday afternoon for the warrant for DUI. He was released on a promise to appear in court Dec. 3.
