Joel Guzman, 39 of Stratford, had been driving 64 mph in a 35 zone when officers stopped him, police said. After officers approached the car, they reported smelling a strong odor of burnt marijuana and asked Guzman whether he had anything illegal or dangerous in the car, police said.
He told officers he didn't and said the car wasn't his, police said. A search of the car turned up two knives, one under the driver's seat and the other in the driver's side door compartment, both more than the 4-inch length limit, police said.
Officers also determined Guzman was on probation, police said. He was taken into custody and brought him to headquarters, police said.
Guzman was charged with having weapons in a car and was released on a written promise to appear March 7. He was also issued a misdemeanor summons on a charge of speeding and given a court date of March 10.
