The conductor sustained a cut on his hand in the altercation, but it wasn't serious, said Marjorie Anders, a Metro-North spokeswoman.
When the train arrived in Westport, the passenger attempted to leave the train. But in a shoving match between the passenger and the conductor, the conductor fell onto the station platform while the train door was open.
The train was kept at the station and the suspect was taken into custody by Westport police, who turned him over to Metro-North police, Anders said.
All the passengers were removed the train because it was technically a crime scene, she said. Police needed to continue the investigation so the train could not leave the area, Anders said.
All passengers were put on the next train, she said.
The altercation occurred on the 10:04 a.m. train from Grand Central Terminal to New Haven.
