A crash occurred shortly after 6 a.m. on the northbound New England Thruway in Guilford between Connecticut 88 (Exit 58) and Goose Lane (Exit 59).
The person who was killed was ejected from the vehicle, state police said.
Neither the name nor gender of the person has been released.
The crash with ejection and at least one serious injury occurred around 6 a.m., state police said.
Motorists were diverted off of Exit 58 during the closure.
After about five hours, vehicles began passing in the median lane.
