Zion Burton, of Bridgeport, was killed in Fairfield at the Calvin United Church banquet hall on Kings Highway East around 10:30 p.m., Saturday, July 9.
The teen was gunned down just six days before his 16th birthday, said Lt. Michael Paris, of the Fairfield Police.
"On behalf of Chief Robert Kalamaras and the entire Fairfield Police Department, we offer our most sincere condolences to Zion’s family," Paris said. "Our investigators are working diligently, pursuing several leads to apprehend the person(s) responsible."
Burton was attending a large birthday party that included about 150 to 200 guests. Besides Burton, a woman was also shot in the jaw by the same bullet, Paris said.
"Again, we ask anyone who may have information leading to the death of Zion, please contact the Fairfield Police Detective Bureau at 203-254-4840," he added.

Before the shooting, a physical fight began and a single gunshot was heard causing several people in the banquet hall to disperse to the street, Paris said.
As people exited the banquet hall, three additional people sustained minor injuries that were not related to gunfire, contrary to what was dispersed on several media and social media venues, Paris said.
Police said they believe the shooting was an isolated event.
