The woman, Rosa Blanca Chavarria-Medina, 30, of Bridgeport, was found to have a blood alcohol content of 0.3, over three times the legal limit, and was driving in excess of 70 mph at the time of the crash, Police Chief Gary MacNamara said.
"We certainly want to arrest this individual so that she doesn't hurt anyone else." MacNamara said. "We are actively looking for her to serve the warrant."
She had been traveling south on Interstate 95 and took Exit 24 for Chambers Street on Monday night, police said. Her Nissan Maxima sped south off the exit ramp, careened through the parking lot and came to rest at the Cumberland Farms building after striking five other vehicles, Fairfield police said.
Police filed for the arrest warrant Thursday on charges of driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, failure to obey a stop sign, failure to grant half of the highway, reckless driving and reckless endangerment.
Locating Chavarria-Medina has been difficult, MacNamara said. She has several addresses on different identity cards, he said.
Chavarria-Medina has previously been arrested on charges of driving under the influence by Westport Police.
Any one with information regarding the whereabouts of Chavarria-Medina is urged to contact Fairfield police at 203-254-4800.
