This year, the department is working with Newtown Kindness in distributing the toys to families in need around the county.

"It was started by one of our detectives who had a very sick child and they spent a lot of time at the hospital.  Each year since and now carried on by different officers we collect toys for children. We have a drop off box in the front lobby for anyone to use, any time of day," said Fairfield Police Lieutenant Sue Lussier.

The toys will be brought to children at Bridgeport Hospital and the families working with Newtown Kindness.
