A manager at the Walgreens on Villa Avenue called police after a young woman took a phone case and left the store without paying, police said.
The manager gave officers a detailed description of the car the girl got into, police said. Officers stopped the car a short time later, police said.
When officers asked whether there was anything illegal in the car, the driver admitted to having marijuana and consented to have the car searched, police said.
During the search, officers found a plastic Walgreens bag as well as the phone case and screen protector that was reported stolen from the store in the possession of 19-year-old Nuesha Shipman of Bridgeport, police said.
She was taken into custody and transported to the police station for processing. While she was in the station, officers found a pink Pitbull stun gun, which was in working order and emitted a loud noise and an electric blue current, police said.
Shipman was charged with sixth-degree larceny and possession of an electronic defense weapon. She was released on $500 bond with a court date of May 23.
According to police, a stun gun is used by pressing it against a surface, emitting the electric current. It differs from a Taser, which can be used from a distance.
