When an officer saw and approached the car, the driver, Bryce Laister, 21, woke and attempted to hide something in the center console of the car, police said. The officer asked Laister what he put in the console, and he denied putting anything in there, police said.
A second officer arrived, and Laister was asked to get out of the car to allow the officers to search the center console, police said. In it, they found a yellow pill and a piece of paper typically used to store drugs, police said.
During a search, officers found two more paper envelopes in Laister’s pockets, containing a substance later identified as heroin, police said. He admitted to purchasing the heroin from a dealer, police said.
Laister was charged with two counts of possession of a narcotic and released on $200 bond. He was also issued a misdemeanor summons on charges of misuse of a license plate, driving an unregistered car and driving with no insurance. He is due in court Nov. 18.
