Fairfield Cops: Woman Used Medicaid In Prescription Fraud

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A Meriden woman was charged with using Medicaid funds to pay for illegal prescriptions at a Fairfield pharmacy, according to police reports.

Crystal Coffey, 31, of Meriden ordered a prescription for 180 oxycodone pills from a CVS Pharmacy in Fairfield last February, police say. She picked up the prescription and charged $260 to the state’s Medicaid program, according to police reports.

Investigators later found that the prescription had been forged, according to police. Because the prescription was invalid, the case was treated as a theft from a government institution, according to police reports.

Fairfield Police filed for an arrest warrant for Coffey, and she was picked up by Meriden Police at her home Monday morning.

Coffey was charged with second-degree larceny, a felony. Her bond was set at $10,000 and she is due in court on March 11.
