Newton was born March 27, 1926, in Bridgeport, to Harry J. and Helen Gannon Anderson. She and her husband lived in Fairfield until 1976 when they moved to Florida for 19 years. She moved back to Connecticut in 1995, residing in Milford to be closer to her family and friends. She recently attended her 70th Bassick High School reunion with her friends.
Newton is survived by her children, Paul Newton (Norma) of Indiana, Brian Newton (June) of Shelton, Lynn Facenda (Dennis) of West Haven and Diane Mercaldi (fiancé, John Takacs) of Milford; 10 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister, Barbara Bourque of Stratford; brother, Charles (Mary) Anderson of Oxford; many nieces, nephews; and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Donald; brother, Warren Anderson; sister, Jeanne Bourque; and brothers-in-law, John and Daniel Bourque.
Calling hours are Saturday, Nov. 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a prayer service at 12:30 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford. Burial will be private.
