Marcella Tubbs, 70, Fairfield Dollhouse Collector

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Marcella J. Tubbs, a Fairfield resident, died Jan. 1. She was 70.

Born and raised near Pittsburgh, Tubbs was the daughter of the late John and Agnes Harkins Marino. After graduating from Mt. Aloysius College and Duquesne University, she worked as a grammar school teacher and public relations assistant.

She was recognized as one of the leading collectors of dollhouses and miniatures and dollhouse dolls in the United States. She and her husband authored a book, "Dollhouse and Miniature Dolls 1840-1990," that is considered a standard reference work in the field. She also was a frequent contributor on the subjects of miniatures and small dolls to hobbyist magazines and antique journals. In 2014, she donated the majority of her collection to the National Museum of Toys and Miniature in Kansas City, Mo.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Robert Tubbs; children, Brian M. Tubbs of Nashua N.H. and Caroline C. Dolan and her husband Michael Dolan of New York, N.Y.; stepdaughter, Jennifer Kersmanc and her husband Richard, and their children, Sean and Evie, Robert J. Tubbs III, his wife Ana Lourenco, and their sons, Zachary and Ryan; her sisters; four nieces and nephews; and seven grandnieces and grandnephews. 

Funeral arrangements are private.
