Vandals Return to Library

Someone in Fairfield must not be happy with the library's service. Police are investigating another incidence of vandalism at Fairfield Woods Library that occurred Monday night, the second in the past three days. Early Tuesday morning, the maintenance crew at the branch found green and black spray-paint covering the library's windows, walls and nearby signs. The vandals left messages including vulgar terms, as well as the words "Book Returner 666" and "Old People" on the building's grounds. Handicap parking signs were blocked out, and the suspects also drew swastikas on the library's windows.

Vandals previously spray-painted the building's windows on Saturday, Aug. 28, between noon and 1 p.m. The unidentified, unseen suspect wrote vulgar messages designed to be read from inside the building. Police estimate the total damage at about $1500. They have no suspects, and did not find discarded paint cans near the scene.

Also from the police blotter:

• A Middlebrook Drive woman reported that her son's Xbox had been stolen. The resident told police that she had a tenant who moved out approximately three weeks ago. On Monday, her son noticed his video game system was missing. She had little information on the former tenant except his name and phone number, and was unable to reach him. Police are still investigating the incident.

• A trio of Fairfield teens were charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana Monday night. An officer found Brian Allen, 18, of Midlock Road and two youthful offenders ages 17 and 16 parked in Tunxis Hill park after hours. When the officer went to investigate, he noticed the remnants of hollowed-out cigars near the vehicle. After searching the car, police found two cigars containing marijuana in the center console and a bag with a small amount of the drug near the passenger-side door. All three were issued a misdemeanor summons for possession of marijuana and released on a promise to appear in court. Allen is due in court Sept. 21, and the two youthful offenders are scheduled for Sept. 9.
