Storm 'Sightseers' Being Reported At Parks Closed Due To Storm Damage

As crews continue cleaning up from last week’s severe line of storms, police officials are warning local storm ‘sightseers’ to stay clear of contractors and parks closed because of damage.

According to the Connecticut State Environmental Conservation Police, there is still extensive storm damage to a number of state parks and forests throughout the area following Tuesday’s storm, which uprooted trees and sent debris flying. In response, people have reportedly been making their way to those parks in an effort to evaluate and see the damage done in the region.

“Please do not go to these parks as crews are working to clear these areas and make them safe,” police noted.

The parks closed include:

Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden;
Kettletown State Park in Southbury;
Squantz Pond State Park in New Fairfield;
Wharton Brook State Park in Wallingford.

“We have received several questions about Candlewood Lake," officials noted. "The waters of Candlewood Lake are open; however there is storm-related debris in the water, so use caution. Roadways around the lake may be closed as utility crews continue to make repairs."
