Nicholas Stasolla, Fairfield Police Detective

Nicholas C. Stasolla, a Fairfield native, died at Bridgeport Hospital on Sunday night at the age of 92. Stasolla was a career member of the Fairfield Police Department, retiring at the rank of detective sergeant.

Stasolla was born July 16, 1918, and graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Forces in the European theater. After the war, he joined the Fairfield police department, reaching detective sergeant and becoming a member of the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut Narcotics Squad.

Stasolla was also a talented golfer. While at Ludlowe, he won the Connecticut and New England High School championships in 1937. He carried a single-digit handicap throughout his life, winning many senior championships at H. Smith Richardson Golf Course and other local tournaments.

He was also a member of the American Legion Post 143 in Fairfield, a charter member of the H. Smith Richardson Golf Club, a member of the Bridgeport Oldtimer’s Athletic Association and a longtime member of Our Lady of Assumption.

Stasolla is survived by his wife, Carne G. Autuori Stasolla; three daughters: Rebecca Stasolla of Black Rock, Dr. Mary Cilio and Michele Komenda and husband William E. Komenda Jr., all of Fairfield; a sister, Violet Silvestro of Fairfield; and six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Marie Penders and Esther Dardani; and son-in-law William Cilio.

Calling hours are Wednesday, May 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Shaughnessy-Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road. Funeral services will begin Thursday at 8:45 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow at Lawncroft Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to the Harbor Light Foundation, 303 Linwood Avenue, Suite 2A, Fairfield, CT 06824.
