Mold Cleared: Fairfield Woods Branch Library Reopens Saturday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield Woods Branch Library will reopen as planned on Saturday, Nov. 23, after closing down to clean up significant mold growth within the building, the Fairfield Public Library announced Friday via Twitter.

The Fairfield Woods Library will reopen on Saturday, Nov. 23 after completing mold removal that had kept the building shuttered since Monday, Nov. 18.

The mold was the result of leaks from the roof, which was replaced earlier in the year. The mold growth was discovered under sheetrock and other structural elements.

According to the town, there should be no health risks to any of the patrons to the library or the staff because the mold was discovered only after the sheetrock wall was opened.

“We look at what we’ll discard, but it’s not library materials, it’s not books,” Fairfield Woods Library Director Karen Ronald said at a news conference Monday. “We’ve marked what we want to keep and those will be cleaned and returned to that area.”

The library will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
